2019 PAARLNet Convention

 Dear Colleagues:

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL), in collaboration with the Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University, will be holding the 2019 PAARLNet Convention with the theme “PAARL Consortium of Institutional Repositories” on 27-28 June 2019 at the 3rd Floor Information Commons, First Pacific Hall, Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave., Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
 
Part of the convention will be a seminar-workshop in line with the above-mentioned theme. This seminar-workshop aims to familiarize the participants with the concept of Institutional Repositories (IRs) and how to establish and manage their own IRs in their respective institutions/libraries. It intends to equip the participants the knowledge and skills necessary to help them process and organize their digital collections and build their own IRs using available open source digital library platforms.
 
A general meeting of PAARLNet members will be held after the seminar-workshop.
 
Attendance to the convention is offered free to PAARL institutional members (i.e., one representative per institution only) with paid membership dues from years 2017 to 2019. Individual members who wish to attend will be assessed a minimal fee of Php1,200.00 to cover registration, meals and certificates.
CHED endorsement and CPD points are being applied for this event.

PAARL 2019 International Library Benchmarking Tour in Munich, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic

Dear Colleagues,
 
The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) cordially invites you to participate in this year’s International Library Benchmarking Tour of Munich, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic, from 19th-26th October 2019 with the theme: “#PAARL goes EU”. On its 10th year of benchmarking libraries, PAARL has chosen Munich and Prague, being two of Europe's most beautiful cities and well-known for their cultural heritage sites, museums, galleries, and highly coveted libraries.
 
The objectives of this international benchmarking tour are:
a) to see and appreciate the architecture and design of libraries in Munich and Prague;
b) to establish international linkages and foster collaboration across international network of libraries; and
c) to evaluate and learn from best practices and experiences of librarians in Europe, particularly in terms of services, processes, projects, resources, and staff development

Registrations after June 15 may be charged with higher tour package cost due to currency exchange changes and charges imposed by airlines and hotels. Please deposit your registration fee through:

This year, we have partnered with Seasons Travel and Tours as PAARL's tour operator. Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series 2019

PAARL is holding its 1st Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series 2019 with the topic "Digital Preservation: Standards and Trends" on June 7, 2019, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the The Learning Commons, De La Salle University, 6th floor, Henry Sy Sr. Hall, Taft Avenue, Manila

Registration starts at 12:00 noon. Members will be assessed a registration fee of Php300 for PAARL Members and Php350 for non-members. Students may avail of a discounted rate of Php250.

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) will be holding the 2019 Summer Conference with the theme “Repositioning Libraries in Big Data Era: New Methods, Services, and Opportunities”, on 24-26 April 2019 at Robinsons Hotels and Resorts (Go Hotel), Ledesma cor. Mabini St., in Iloilo City.

 

The conference aims to present research proposals from Filipino librarians relating to the impacts of big data on library services, collections, facilities, and spaces. These research proposals will be further developed and enhanced through mentorship by professors of research. Aside from proposals, guest resource speakers will also be invited to shed light on this topic for the benefit of the librarian-participants.

Notice is hereby served that the Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) will hold its 46th General Assembly on 25 January 2019, from 10:00am to 3:00pm, at the 5th Floor, Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave., Quezon City, with the following agenda:

  • Declaration of Quorum
  • Approval of Minutes of 45th General Assembly
  • President’s Report
  • Treasurer’s Report
  • Ratification of all Resolutions of the Board

The formal Induction of the new Executive Board and its Officers for 2019 and the Awarding Ceremonies will be held immediately after the General Assembly. The attire for this event is smart casual. Lunch will be served during the event.

Registration begins at 9:00am. Registration is FREE. However, members are encouraged to renew their membership for 2019 (individual and associate @Php300; institutional @Php1,000).
