2018 PAARLNet Convention

Dear Colleagues:

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) will be holding the 2018 PAARLNet Convention with the theme “Collection Development: Trends and Issues” on 01 to 02 October 2018 at the Asian Institute of Management, 123 Paseo de Roxas, Legazpi Village, Makati City.

The Convention aims to provide a broad overview of what collection development is all about and familiarize participants with current trends and issues on collection development, specifically those that affect academic libraries. Likewise, it intends to equip attendees with the skills necessary to prepare them to carry out collection assessment and evaluation and introduce ways on how they can optimize the use of their limited budget through collaboration/cooperation.

Attendance to the convention is offered free to PAARL institutional members (i.e., one representative per institution only) with paid membership dues from 2017 to 2018. Individual members who have paid their membership fees for 2018 may also attend for a minimal fee of Php2,500.00 inclusive of registration, meals, and certificate.

Participants who will be able to complete this two-day seminar will be granted 13.5 CPE Credit Units.

PAARL 2018 Benchmarking Tour in Sydney Australia (EXTENDED DEADLINE)

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) cordially invites you to participate in this year’s International Library Benchmarking Tour in Sydney, Australia on 20 to 27 October 2018 with the theme: #PAARL goes Aussie.

On its 9th year of benchmarking libraries, PAARL has chosen Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, being one the most dynamic and most developed cities in the world.  It is also well-known for its cultural heritage and productiveness and is home to some of the most innovative libraries in Australia.

The objectives of this international benchmarking tour are:

a.       to see and appreciate the contemporary architecture and design of libraries in Sydney;

b.       to establish international linkages and foster collaboration across international network of libraries; and

c.       to evaluate and learn from best practices and experiences of more innovative libraries in Sydney, particularly in terms of services, processes, projects, resources, and staff development.

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) will be conducting a seminar-workshop on Data Privacy in Philippine Libraries on 25th-27th July 2018, at the Tagaytay Country Hotel, Olivarez Plaza, E. Aguinaldo Hi-way, Tagaytay City.
 
The seminar-workshop aims to provide and equip its participants, insights, considerations, and examples on how librarians and library administrators should collect, process, maintain, and dispose personal and sensitive data from their patrons in accordance with Republic Act (RA) 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

2018 Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series

Dear Colleagues:

The 2018 Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series (MGDLS) is one of the longest running lecture series offered to professional librarians and Library and Information Science (LIS) students in the Philippines. This year, the MGDLS’ theme is “The Push to Research and Publish: Reskilling Librarians towards Becoming Practitioner-Authors”. For this series, the PAARL’s Board of Directors would like to present a cohesive and integrated talks and workshops broken down into singular, independent topics that would provide an excellent opportunity to librarians and LIS students to hone their research skills (whether taken individually or collectively). Thus, making them more effective in conducting research. It is also one way of encouraging the culture of research to Filipino librarians and LIS students.

Participants in the 2018 MGDLS are expected to: (a) gain basic knowledge of scholarly research, publication, and academic writing; (b) demonstrate knowledge of scholarly research by formulating relevant research problems, research questions, data analyses, conclusions, and recommendations; (c) recognize appropriate use of research methodologies, data gathering procedures, and data analysis techniques, (d) discover avenues and opportunities for publishing research manuscripts; and (e) determine the importance of ethics in research and publication.

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) will be holding the 2018 Summer Conference with the theme “User Experience (UX Matters)! : Looking at Library Services from a User Perspective” on 25-27 April 2018 at Fersal Hotel, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
 
The conference aims to gather insights on how library users perceive library services, collections, facilities, and spaces. By gathering insights directly from the library users, academic and research librarians would have a better understanding of actual user needs and demands, thus, enabling librarians to craft highly responsive and effective strategies and plans.
 
CPD Credit units has been applied for this conference.
